Extracurricular Activities
|
Richmond Academy offers a variety of extracurricular activities
designed to stimulate students’ intellects, creativity, and
teamwork skills. The activities may vary between grades and years.
Following are some of the extracurricular opportunities available
to students.
Arts & Sciences
- Art Club – Art and craft projects of various
mediums to develop creativity and visual spatial skills.
- Band I & II – Fundamental & advanced
instrument and music instruction with concert performances.
- Chimes – Bell choir instruction and performances.
- Choir I & II – Fundamental
and advanced voice and music instruction with concert performances.
- Drama Club – Musical and
dramatic performances.
- Talent Show – Opportunity
for students to develop and display individual talents.
- Science Fair – Individual
studies based on scientific principles with judging by a guest
panel.
- Social Studies Fair – Studies
of cultures and historical periods prepared and presented by
each classroom with an evening presentation for their families.
Spirit & Social Activities
- Fall Festival – Carnival-style
family night of games and activities.
- Fall Field Day – Games
and sport activities to foster school spirit and promote interaction
between grades.
- Grandparents’ Day – Lunch event hosting
students’ grandparents.
- Leadership Camp – Student
leaders attend a three-day workshop sponsored by the Columbia
Union of SDAs.
- Pine Car Derby – Students
build and race miniature cars sculpted from pine blocks, with
cars judged on style and speed.
- Spirit Week – Themed activities
for building school spirit.
- Thanksgiving Feast – Gathering
of all students to promote fellowship and a spirit of gratitude.
Sports
- Acro Stars Gymnastics Team – Tumbling
and acrosport instruction with home show and touring performances.
- Ski Program – Day trips
to Massanutten ski resort with skill-appropriate lessons.
- Sports Mini Camps – Additional
training in sports activities such as basketball and volleyball.
- Spring Field Day – Game
and sporting activities to foster school spirit and promote
interaction between different grades.
- Tumble Weeds – Fundamental
tumbling and pyramid building instruction with cameo performance
in home show.
Travel
- Class Trip – Day trips
for activities of student interest, such as theme parks.
- Field Trips – Trips taken
throughout the year to places related to current studies, such
as museums, historic sites and festivals.
- Special Purpose Trips – Mission
and cultural exploration trips to destinations such as Europe,
South America, and the 48 contiguous states.
